Loneliness dwells deep

beneath the smiles that sing sweet free.

Free to be me,

without the confines of another’s dreams.

Free to do as I please,

because I only answer to me.

Free to fly south,

whenever winter darkens my doubts.

Free in a self-made cage,

where the bars obscure my scars

from those who’d stomp on my heart.

The smile that sings sweet free,

is just loneliness that dwells deep beneath.
